Pilgrimage to the Bascilica

Every time we go out now we see parades of people headed to the Basilica.  They usually have vehicles decorated balloons, flowers and crepe paper. December 12 it is the "Day of the Virgin of Guadalupe" and the basilica is named after her.

Public celebrations and fiestas are held in honor of the Virgin of Guadalupe on December 12. Catholics all over Mexico and even other countries come to see an image of the Virgin Mary (that they believe is real) in the Basilica of Guadalupe.  On December 12 a million people are expected to be at the Basilica

Some times we see just parades or groups of people all dressed in the same color and carrying balloons, flowers or banners.
A photo taken from the front seat of our car.
This truck is part of a pilgrimage parade headed to the bascilica

These are just two of 50 or so big trucks with people that have arrived from far places and are living in their trucks during this pilgrimage time.  The street is packed with one truck after another.  They are are parked in sort of a middle lane in between the other lanes.  The truck below had a picture of the Virgin of Guadalupe on it.
