Wow! We had three devotionals yesterday on the Sabbath. Plus RS, Priesthood meeting, sacrament meeting and district meetings. I am in charge of getting special musical numbers. (At least I help with the process.) The missionaries come to me for violins, music and to sign up. Dennis and I listen to their audition and OK it and sign them up. (or not). It has to be sung in Spanish and it has to be a hymn or a primary song. Yesterday we had two special numbers. One was at the 2:00 devotional and the other at the 4:30 devotional. We had to listen to the one audition on two different days because both groups wanted to sing the same song so I asked the second group to go back and choose a different number. They were both amazing.
The CCM has started a pilot program to speed up the Spanish learning. The group that came in 10 days ago were given 100 words to learn in one week and then the next week more words and scriptures and phrases. They are told to only speak Spanish and to sit with the Latinos at lunch. It is a complete Spanish immersion by their teachers. They are already weeks ahead of the other missionaries.
We will have 52 missionaries leave today and tomorrow. They have been trained and are ready to go to their assigned missions. Last night we had a testimony meeting and 35 or so of them have a chance to share their feeling about the church and Jesus Christ. They are ready and excited to go. They have firm testimonies about the truth of the gospel and want to share their convictions with others.
We also had about 80 Latino missionaries leave today as well. I just don't have as much to do with the Latinos. It is amazing to see them leave and more just keep coming. Our census has dropped a little during the holidays. I am sure more will come at the first of the year.
